IASB zoekt toenadering tot islamitische verslaggevingsregels

De International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) gaat met islamitische financiële autoriteiten praten over de harmonisatie van IFRS met islamitische financiële verslaggevingsstandaarden.

Dat meldt de website Emirates Business. 

Board member Robert Garnett liet dit weten tijdens een 'IFRS breakfast briefing' in Dubai. De IASB zal nog dit jaar besprekingen voeren over harmonisatie met de Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). 

Volgens Garnett zijn er nog enkele verschillen tussen IFRS en de islamitische regels. Maar hij voorziet geen problemen bij het opheffen van die verschillen. 

"I hope they can be converged, we all live on the same planet," aldus Garnett. "Islamic financial products have been around much longer than the IASB. It's quite a daunting task but it's more than just intellectual challenge. It is important for the global markets that we bring ourselves together."

Ook registeraccountant en voormalig AFM-bestuurslid Paul Koster, tegenwoordig chief executive van de Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), vindt het belangrijk dat de islamitische en internationale verslaggevingsstandaarden naar elkaar toegroeien, omdat islamitisch financieren inmiddels een zeer belangrijke rol speelt in de wereldeconomie. 

Koster: "We should remember AAOIFI standards were not intended to fully replace IFRS but merely cover those standards and transactions that IFRS does not. I think it is true to say in most cases the differences between IFRS and AAOIFI are more apparent than real. There are a few substantive differences such as when the term interest is used."
